Quinlan got his first taste of one of Dad's favorite pastimes - pumpkin picking! There is nothing quite like looking through a field of pumpkins searching for the perfect one. Q as usual was more interested in the dirt but he did eventually like examining some of the strange large orange objects. The last time he was in a pumpkin patch he was only a few weeks old. He fell in a squashed pumpkin covering his knees in pumpkin guts. He also took a header into another pumpkin after Dad sat him on one trying for a good photo ;-( He was a little skeptical when we were carving out his first pumpkin face. He tried eating some of the pumpkin and loved banging his spoon on the pumpkin ;-)
Harvest time is approaching again and this year we find that we get to share my favorite season with a one year old! The last time we went apple picking Quinlan was still in his Mom's belly. This time around he is treating the apple trees like his own personal lunch buffet. The little man loves nothing better then throwing leaves around and munching on Quinlan size apples. Although not as big as the apple trees back home, we enjoyed the day out. There is nothing like the smell of apple wafting through the cool crisp autumn air. Next we will have to see how he does in the pumpkin patch!
We took a drive down to the coast once we both finished our school year. It was a beautiful secluded spot filled with miles of sandy beach and a rolling coastline. Q was loving the sand and would have been content to play with it all day long. The water was a little cold. The strong wind did not encourage any of us to take a dive. I bit the bullet and waded out into the water for a dip while Quinlan and Mom hung out on the shore. Q thought the water was to cold and did not appreciate being placed in the water even with his feet so we headed back to the beach where he would just play in the sand ;-)
We decided that Quinlan needed more walking room so we took him to the park. As you can see he was impressed with all the space that he had to roam around in!
Quinlan has made some big strides over the last few weeks! The boy wants to be on the move ASAP, he has gone from crawling to walking very quickly. He can also stand on his own for up to about 20 seconds before he realises thathe is not hanging onto anything and drops to the ground ;-)
Quinlan spent a week or so crawling backwards before he finally figured out how to move forward. Now that he has he can not be stopped, he is like a little Tasmanian tiger. He loves to play the "Chase ME" game with Daddy. When we take him to the park he has no inhibitions about crawling away from Mom and Dad as quickly as he can without looking back.
In one of the local villages they had a small fair with a variety of kid rides so we brought Quinlan down to enjoy the atmosphere. He was a little overwhelmed at first but he loves staring at people so he settled down quickly. We actually took him on his first fair ride. Nothing to exciting just a merry-go-round but he seemed to enjoy it.
Now that he has some idea of what is going on around him we took him to the local duck pound. We had a great time giving the birds bread even though he would much rather try to eat it himself. He is developing his own unique personality with each passing day. He is so active it feels as if he is ready to get up and walk at any point forgoing all the crawling.
We are amazed at how much Quinlan has changed over the last month. It seems like everyday he is learning something new. He is now grabbing things on purpose and trying to eat everything he can put into his mouth. He can't quite sit up on his own yet but he is almost there. He laughs and giggles at everything and loves to be naked! Although not sleeping all the way through the night yet he is not waking up every hour anymore. Lyn just spent a week at home with him on her half-term break now it is my turn ;-)
